[소셜밸류=박완규 기자] ASET, a company specializing in next-generation secondary battery materials, has signed a technology transfer agreement with Korea Institute of Energy Research for secondary battery technology.
On the 5th, the company made a second technology transfer deal with Korea Institute of Energy Research for core technologies related to lithium metal batteries for next-generation secondary batteries.
The agreement is based on the achievements developed by Korea Institute of Energy Research, covering lithium metal anode stabilization technology, interface control technology, and next-generation electrode structure design technology. These technologies serve as next-generation battery technologies which can achieve both high energy density and enhanced safety, and play a crucial role in semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries.
In 2023, ASET has already stroke a first technology transfer deal with Korea Institute of Energy Research for core technologies for next-generation solid-sate battery electrolytes. Based on the agreement, the company is promoting the development and commercialization of solid-state electrolyte membranes for semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries.
The second technology transfer agreement appears to be a strategy to gradually internalize the key components of semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries by integrating existing solid-state electrolyte technology with lithium metal anodes and next-generation electrode technologies.
Based on the solid-state electrolyte technology and lithium metal anodes and next-generation electrode technologies secured through the first and second technology transfer agreements, ASET has set a mid- to long-term roadmap to commercialize semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries which incorporate both solid-state electrolyte and lithium metal by 2030.
Starting this year, the company aims to move from prototype development and performance evaluation to commercialization through gradual technology advancement and PoC. Park Seok-jeong, the CEO of ASET said, “The technology transfer deal for lithium metal and next-generation electrode technologies, following the 2023 technology transfer agreement, serves as a milestone for completing the core technology portfolio required to commercialize semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries.”
The CEO also added, “We will lead the next-generation batteries market with high energy density and enhanced safety by commercializing semi-solid and all-solid-state batteries that incorporate both solid-state electrolytes and lithium-metal anodes using our proprietary technology by 2030.”
Meanwhile, ASET plans to expand its partnership with both domestic and international research institutions and global partners under the strategy of becoming a leading next-generation battery core material and system company by combining solid-state electrolytes with lithium metal technology, with a focus on semi-solid batteries.
